About Amy
Amy has always had a love for animals, specially horses. Amy has been riding since she was ten years old; her fondest memories were always at the barn. Amy understands the struggle for horse owners when they feel like they’ve tried everything and their horses are still having issues. Amy was in a similar situation with her mare, Maggie. Maggie struggled relaxing into her canter strides, had difficulty bending, and often held her head high/crooked. Amy was looking for help from left, right, and centre to help Maggie. After she looked into equine massage therapy as an option, it opened her eyes to realize Maggie was tight, and lacked core and muscle strength. As Amy strived to provide massage and targeted exercises to help Maggie, she noticed little by little Maggie was becoming more free in her movement and more of a pleasure to ride. Seeing the benefits of bodywork on her own horse was the ‘aha’ moment that Amy wants to be able to share with other like minded equestrians; no matter where they are in their horse journey.
As she headed into high-school she knew she couldn’t sit behind a desk for the rest of my life. She knew her true passion was with helping horses. In Amy’s grade 11 year of high school, she had the amazing opportunity to do a co-operative education with a well experienced equine massage therapist, Melissa Caccamo. At the end of that year, Amy was given the chance to register for the SMARTcert program to become a certified equine massage therapist. She completed all of the theory portion of the course during her spares in high school. Additionally, she took planned days off school to attend her on hand training. Amy has had so many wonderful teachers and examples, both two legged and four legged, to assist her through this experience. After a lot of hard work Amy became a certified equine massage therapist at the age of 17 years old. Amy is always taking new opportunities to expand her learning in the equine field; using her age as an advantage to take as many opportunities as she can to help your equine in the best way possible!
